I was lucky enough to have received gold status for the MGM M-Life player's club. One of the few benefits for this level (as well as Platinum) are 'Room Upgrade (subject to availability)' and 'Priority Check-In Line & Priority Early Check-In/Late Check-Out'Has anyone here received a room upgrade without asking for it or run across this 'benefit' when checking in?
If so, what were you scheduled to receive and what did you end up with? While I believe 'Priority Early Check-In/Late Check-Out' will give you 'Priority', that doesn't mean free. However, the 'Priority Check-in' is interesting since I have never seen a priority line before. I have used the 'Invited guests' line because, for some rooms such as a Tower suite at, you can check in with the invited guests, but I have never seen this 'Priority' line and for lack of other info would assume this to be the 'invited guests' line.Has anyone received the 'upgrade' or experienced the 'Priority' check-in? Thanks, Brandon. I wrote to M-Life with these questions and their response was effectively, 'call us and we'll talk about it.' Thanks M-Life, but I'd rather have a response in writing.Based on your response Brandon, it would seem that they did give you an upgrade.
Does charge more for a 'City View', and I guess that's what you got. I wonder if this would apply to regularly booked rooms as well? It would be interesting to know if you had already booked a 'City view', what you would have received. Mark - in defense of the Mlife email, i'm sure it's easier for them (and for you) if you guys have a conversation. Here's my opinion why: every situation is different regarding upgrades regardless of what tier you are. I'm barely in the pearl tier but on my last trip to in January, on a casino rate, we were upgraded from a regular king to a tower deluxe room just for asking - no sandwich.
I always use invited guest check in because we always have some type of casino rate, either reduced or comped. I am always smiling and show interest in the agent (hopefully a female) and always ask politely for an upgrade.
It can't hurt. You must remember that no matter your status, that agent has you by the cajones and can make or break your room. Also, Sundays thru Thursdays are usually less busy so generally upgrades are easier to come. Just my experience, but it almost always works. Oh, and after I've been given the upgrade, i just happen to find a $20 or more lying on the floor and hand it to the agent.
Always brings a smile to their face and starts me off ahead on the karma chart. As far as room upgrades, it's just like trying to get one normally, except you have 'official' leverage. You're officially entitled to get one, if it's available. If you're not going through a host, and the upgrade is not something that you can lock in via the online reservation system, then I think the way to approach it is to just present your players card along with your ID and cc at check in and say your understanding is that Gold level makes you eligible for an upgrade if it's available, and would they please check on that?
Thanks apbjr and Swearingen.Ha, 'official' leverage' it will be. I was just wondering about this because it seems that I don't get upgrades because I always pay in advance for the room I want. All in all, my good friend Karma takes care of me very well so I would never complain. (Very lucky with 4 hand pays in the past 14 months, so thank you, Karma!)As for M-Life's response, give it to me in writing so that I don't have to play the 'But I was told over the phone that.' While it may be true that every situation is different, they still have rules to follow and that was what I was looking for. Since they refused to clarify the rules, on the back end, it's a new program so we don't have much experience with it to know what to expect.
Mark - you mentioned that you always paid in advance. Does that mean you buy through expedia or other online outlet? I have learned from reading these boards that some hotels are not as likely to 'work' with you if you don't book directly with them.
Having said that, with your tier status, I would think that really shouldn't matter. One other thing you might try - maybe you already have. Call the Mlife people, like calling a host, and give them your players # and ask them what kind of comps or casino rates they can give you. (I will have already found the lowest possible rate for my dates through smartervegas.com or one of those sites so I'll know what kind of deal I'm getting) I just learned all of this within the last 18 months, but being armed with knowledge is a powerful tool. Here's another story I thought was interesting and taught me even more. Buddy and I on our trip to last month. Went to Cosmo to check it out and roll the dice. Before we even put money on the table a nice looking young lady walks up and tells us her name, she's a host, says to call her if we ever need anything.
Didn't think much about it - never had a host before! We played for a few hours over about 4 days because we liked the place so much - every staff member falls all over themselves to make you feel special.
Anyway, a couple days after we get home I emailed her to let her know how nice it was to meet her, what a great atmosphere they have, loved the restaurants, blah, blah, blah. She emails me back and says to contact her before our next trip. Just so happens we're going back in June and she has comped our first night and given us DEEPLY discounted rates on the next three nights, saving us over $500. Strange how things work out!.
